Question : Kitipong

To Admin Officer,
First of all I would like to give you a bit of background on my situation. My name is Kitipong Taveevirat. I have been expatriate working outside of Thailand for almost 6 years. I have 3 children aged 8 (BD: Dec 6, 94), 6 (BD: Jun 3, 96) and 2 (BD: Jun 22, 00). The two elder children have always been studying abroad in International school in Hong Kong ('97-'99, Funful International Kindergarten), Singapore ('99-'02, International School of Singapore), and Vietnam ('02-'03, International School of Ho Chi Minh City). My daughter, Pattarasuda is currently in Grade 3, and my son, Natchakrit is in Grade 1. My youngest son, Supanat has not started school yet.
The academic program at ISS (Singapore) and ISHCMC (Vietnam) follow the International Baccalaureat system for Primary Year Program (IB PYP). The children obviously can speak, read and write English very well. But they can only SPEAK Thai. They cannot read or write Thai. Both achieve very high academic result.
We are moving back to Thailand in June. I am only aware of this move just last week. So I need to find a school quickly for my children to attend in the next academic year. The current school term for children will finish on June 14. But if necessary, we can take them out of school slightly earlier than that.
     1. I would like to find out if it is still possible to enroll my children in this upcoming academic year at Sarasas?
     2. When will the upcoming academic year start for Sarasas?
     3. What do you require from me to apply for the 3 children?
     4. Is the academic program at Sarasas accredited by any institution?
I know that the questions that I asked may be covered in the website already. But since I cannot read, I hope that you can help clarify. I am looking forward to hearing the good news from you. I am very concerned about finding a school for my children to attend next year.

Thanks

Attention Mr.Kitipong

Thank you for your interest in our school. First of all, we would like to introduce our school. Sarasas Ektra School is a Bi-lingual school in Thailand which stands in between a private Thai school and an International school, under the Thai curriculum. Sarasas Ektra School was granted the license as the first bilingual school (Thai-English) in Thailand by the Ministry of Education.
We accept new students (male/female) from KG.1 - (G.12) from November of every year. One Academic Year is divided into two semesters.

First Semester - Middle of May - beginning of October

Second Semester - November - beginning of March

As for your children’s application, Ms. Pattarasuda can apply for Grade 4, Mstr. Natchakrit for Grade 2 and Mstr. Supanat for KG.1. (But right now there is no vacancy for Grade 2 and KG.1). For Grade 4 it's available but she’ll have to take an entrance exam in both Thai and English.

We hope to see you when you come back to Thailand and we would like to welcome you to visit our school before making any decision. For further information please contact us at : Tel. 662-213-0117, 662-212-0157 Fax. 662-674-0499

Thank you

Question : Preecha
I'd read Ektra website regarding rules for new student applications Year 2003 for KG.1. I'm interested to apply for my son but his birth date is on September 9,2000 which is not in age rules for KG.1(1 Aug 99-31 Jul 00.)
So are there any chance for my son to apply for KG.1,if yes,do you need to test my son first?
Thanks for your information in advance.

According to the general rule of Thai schools, students should be born before the 16th of May for each year but we have extended it till the end of July for each grade. Students born after these dates will not be accepted into their respective grade levels as there might be further complications with social, emotional and intellectual development. That is, they will not be ready to start learning in that particular grade level.

However, thank you very much for your interest in our school .We would appreciate if you could come to apply for KG.1 in the academic year 2004.

Thank you

Question : Anongkorn Nopparat
RE : The School Teaching Curriculum
TO : Principal of Sarasas Ektra School
I am the mother of my son, who will enter Kindergarten Year 1 in the next semester. I think the kindergarten education is relevant for the child learning foundation. I was very interested after hearing the good education advice from the school. I would like to ask a few questions about the teaching curriculum.
     1. How does the school encourage each child's potentials?
     2. How does the school support the child's learning ability?
     3. In a class of 30 students, how many teachers and assistant teachers are there?

Yours sincerely,

Answer : admin
Thank you for your interest Khun Anongkorn. We'd like to answer your questions as follows:-
1. Each child has unique ability and interests. Therefore, teachers will organize a variety of activities to meet students' interests as well as create a positive learning atmosphere such as organize corners for blocks, education games, arts and books. Students can choose the activities that they like. Teachers will be the observers and supporters.
2. The objective of the curriculum is to develop students' ability to their full potential for each level. The school employs the child-centered learning method and teachers are the facilitators, advisers and supporters. The teaching curriculum for each grade level is suitable for students' age. They learn from actual hands-on experience through various activities.
3. In a class of 30 students, there is one teacher and two assistant teachers. Foreign teachers teach two periods a day.
